"They wrote to me that I was too old." Miss Russia contestant on the underbelly of the contest, haters and escorts
And at the age of 11, she took part in her first beauty contest in her hometown of Nizhnevartovsk and won first place. I really liked the process, the preparation, the success and the fact that I found a new girlfriend. Then I became interested in the beauty and fashion industry. I went to a modeling school, participated in creative shoots and flew to Fashion Week in Moscow.
This year I decided to go to the casting and once again with my friend. She told me the following: "Go! It's yours." An open casting was held in a shopping center in Moscow. Out of 200-250 participants, only 10 were chosen and entered the top 10 for the final selection. It was really unexpected, fun and exciting. I am very grateful to my friend for her support!
In mid-September, 50 participants gathered for a conference. They told me what to expect at the competition. And that same day, we were sent to a wonderful complex in the Moscow region, where we spent three weeks training with our teachers, preparing for the finals and becoming a more united team.
We ate three balanced meals a day, used the pool and the gym. We lived on a strict schedule. All the lessons and preparations from morning to evening were scheduled down to the minute and required discipline and punctuality. But I was so excited. These three weeks were not enough, and I did not want to leave.
The girls turned out to be very friendly. I am a non-conflict person and discord devastates me. There were no signs of hostility between the other participants either. And minor misunderstandings happen in any group. The most important thing is to solve the problem correctly. We are in constant communication with the girls. I also found a friend, and this is the most valuable thing.
My main goal was to represent the city with dignity. When articles about me started appearing in Miss Russia, I didn’t think at first that I would receive much support. But everything turned out differently. I was posted on dozens of local publics, friends, acquaintances and even complete strangers wrote to me. It’s really cool! The support of compatriots is truly one of the best moments of the competition.
There were also hate messages, which is inevitable. Personally, they never wrote that I was unworthy or ugly or that I was an escort. They sent me a letter saying that I was too old and looked like I was 30.
We were mentally prepared for this at the competition. I am sensitive and have a lot of empathy, so I was afraid that such hatred would break me. But honestly, I didn’t have time to read the comments during the competition. Sometimes only friends share funny things from haters.
