Thousands of floating spiders released from UK zoo
Staff at Chester Zoo in England have released thousands of swamp spiders (Dolomedes plantarius), The Sun reports.
The species is said to have had the "largest mating season on record." There are currently 10,000 breeding females, but that number could increase. They can grow to the size of a human palm.
Dolomedes plantarius can run on the surface of the water to catch prey. Their legs are covered with tiny hairs that detect the slightest vibrations of the water surface, allowing them to actively hunt.
In August, the city of Belov complained about a tarantula invasion. Large hairy arthropods began to be encountered everywhere: in courtyards, garages, verandas and even apartments.
