Muscovite gets jail time for stealing shampoos and oils from Perekrestok
Muscovite who stole 6 shampoos and 6 packs of butter sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison
A Muscovite was sentenced to one year and eight months in a maximum security penal colony for stealing six bottles of shampoo and six packages of butter from the Perekrestok store, RIA Novosti reports. The court found him guilty of open theft of someone else's property under Article 161, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum penalty under this article is up to four years in prison.
According to the case file, the man put the items from the basket into a bag and tried to leave the store without paying. He was noticed by a security guard, but the man ignored their demands and ran away with the stolen goods. An exception to the usual procedure is if the accused has a criminal record, which affects the severity of the punishment.
The man was remanded in custody in court. Despite pleading guilty, his sentence could not be reduced due to his previous convictions for theft and robbery. He had previously been charged with theft and attempted theft, which was a deciding factor in his sentencing.
