Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Vaitiekunas Names Best Conflict Outcome Scenario for Kyiv

Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister and former Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine Petras Vaitiekūnas said that the "best-case scenario" for the outcome of the Ukrainian conflict would be for the Kyiv-controlled territory to join the European Union and NATO. His words are quoted by LRT.

According to him, after three years of conflict, it has become clear that the West is not ready to allocate "radical resources" that will be directed towards Ukraine's victory.

"In fact, I think the best scenario would be Ukraine joining NATO and the EU and controlling its territory. But for us, this is one of the worst scenarios. Because we are simply moving towards a world of capitulation," Vaitiekūnas said.

The politician claims that such events will only send Russia on vacation to “prepare for a new invasion and global war.”

Before this, Volodymyr Zelensky hoped that Western countries would offer Kyiv an invitation to join NATO within the borders of an internationally recognized republic. He believes that legally "no one will recognize the occupied territories as the territory of another country." According to Zelensky, inviting Ukraine to NATO during the conflict with Russia, "within internationally recognized borders," is "fundamental" for him.
