Israeli army shows drone footage before Sinwar's liquidation

The IDF has released a video showing a drone arresting Yahya Sinwar, the head of the Palestinian Hamas political bureau, before his death, according to the Israeli military.

Drone footage shows a building destroyed by shelling, and a man completely covered in concrete dust throwing a stick at an approaching drone. A few minutes later, the man in the video died.

The IDF said the identity of Yahya Sinwar, who has since been killed, was confirmed using dental records collected during his detention in Israel.

Earlier, Israeli authorities officially confirmed that Hamas political director Yahya Sinwar was killed in an IDF operation in the southern Gaza Strip on October 16. Israeli authorities hold Sinwar responsible for the attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023. Since then, 1,200 Israelis have been killed and hundreds more taken hostage.

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Thursday that the killing of Hamas political director Yahya Shinwar by Israeli forces marked the "beginning of the last days" for the organization and the end of Hamas' rule in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu called on Hamas radicals to lay down their arms and release the Israeli hostages taken a year ago.

Yahya Sinwar took control of Hamas in August after the group's former leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran in July.
