Biden compares killing of Hamas leader to bin Laden's

US President Joe Biden believes that the removal of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is similar to the removal of Osama bin Laden (the founder of the international terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, banned in Russia) in 2011, RIA Novosti reports.

"For my Israeli friends, today is certainly a day of relief and remembrance. "It is similar to the scenes that have been seen across America since former President Barack Obama ordered the operation to kill Osama bin Laden in 2011," the US leader said.

Biden promised to call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders soon to congratulate them on the removal of the Hamas leader.

He also said that US intelligence agencies are helping the Israel Defense Forces track down Hamas leaders. Biden believes that Sinwar's death opens up the possibility of a peaceful settlement in the Middle East.

Earlier it was reported that the political director of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces. According to sources, the new leader of the movement was killed in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

Sinwar became the leader of Hamas in 2017 and took over as the organization's political director in August 2024. He replaced Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in a direct missile strike in Tehran on July 31.
