18.2 thousand people suffered from tick bites in nine months in St. Petersburg

In the first 9 months of 2024, 18,288 people suffered from tick bites in St. Petersburg. 46 local residents were diagnosed with encephalitis, 367 - with borreliosis. This was reported by the vice-speaker of the Legislative Assembly Andrei Ryabokon in his Telegram channel, citing data from representatives of the city administration of Rospotrebnadzor.

"The leaders in the number of confirmed bites are the Kurotny and Pushkinsky districts, where 734 and 453 people were injured, respectively," the deputy noted.

Ryabokon explained that the authorities of St. Petersburg allocated 3.8 million rubles this year for acaricidal and uricidal treatment of the region. The money was distributed among 13 districts of the city. According to the deputy, Admiralteysky, Vasileostrovsky, Kalininsky, Kronshtadtsky and Tsentralny did not receive funding.

Ryabokon reported that the increase in the number of bites of dangerous arthropods has been observed for three years. He is convinced that the approach to tick control, which consists of zonal processing of budget distribution, needs to be changed and is preparing proposals that could help improve the situation.
