Restorers discover underground tunnel in Filipp Akulov's apartment building in Krasnodar

While carrying out restoration work in the apartment building of Philip Akulov on the corner of Krasnaya and Pushkin streets, specialists discovered previously unknown basements and underground tunnels. This was reported by the press service of the regional administration.

The house has undergone waterproofing work, the brickwork, plaster foundation, architectural decorative elements, stairs and doors have been reproduced.

The building was constructed in 1911 according to the design of the architect Alexander Kozlov. At that time, it was one of the best examples of Yekaterinodar Art Nouveau. The owner, Filipp Akulov, took part in the contract work. Akulov was a deputy of the city council, an honorary justice of the peace, an honorary member of the girls' military shelter, and was elected mayor in 1919.

During the Great Patriotic War, the building suffered greatly. It was burned by the Nazi invaders during their retreat, resulting in the complete loss of the roof and ceiling. In 1949, the Akulov House was restored far from the original design by the architect Alexander Stelmashchuk, and the facade of the building was changed.
