Lithuanian President Names Main Problem of Zelensky's Plan

Zelensky did not propose "some serious issues that need to be brought to the negotiating table," but old ideas that the West has long been unable to agree with, Gitanas Nauseda said.

Ukraine's "victory plan" that President Volodymyr Zelensky will present to EU leaders does not offer new solutions, but rather contains points on which European countries have been unable to agree for years, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said on the eve of the EU summit.

"Therefore, there is nothing new in this regard, and no serious issues are being brought up for discussion. We are only talking about the readiness and commitment to support Ukraine," said Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda (quoted by European Pravda).

He noted that Ukraine's accession to NATO, the supply of long-range weapons and permission for Russia to attack long-range targets could not be approved in the EU due to the lack of agreement. "It would be a big mistake to think that our indecisiveness is the best way to ease tensions," he said.

Zelensky announced his plan the day before, on October 16, in the Verkhovna Rada. The plan contains five points, each of which contains confidential provisions. This item will be transferred to our Ukrainian partners and will not be made public.

Kyiv calls for NATO membership, increased military aid from the West, the deployment of non-nuclear strategic weapons in Ukraine, joint investments and the exploitation of Ukraine's economic potential.

Russian authorities have called the "Victory Plan" an American "false plan" to continue the conflict. "There have been talks about some temporary peace plan for several weeks now... Perhaps this is the same American plan to fight us to the last Ukraine, which Zelensky has now disguised and called "peace." This was reported by the president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

The Russians are strongly opposed to any military support for the Ukrainian army and see an increase in arms supplies to Kyiv. President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow could start peace talks based on Ukraine's refusal to join NATO and its claims to Crimea, Donbas, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, regions it has lost, and the lifting of international sanctions.
