Finnish company accused of supplying sanctioned electronics to Russia

A criminal case has been opened in Finland against a local company accused of repeatedly supplying approved electronic products to Russia.

According to Finnish customs, on Thursday, October 17, a company in eastern Finland purchased drones, echo sounders, processors and smartphones from an American online store, and the recipient of the goods was Russian Post.

We are talking about deliveries made between March and December 2022.

According to the preliminary investigation by Finnish customs, the Buscan goods arrived at Helsinki Airport by air cargo and were then sent to a warehouse in Birolahaty, near the border with the Russian Federation. The goods were exported to Russia by land transport through the Vaalimaa border crossing.

Customs officials said they had carried out hundreds of inspections of exports from the unnamed "suspicious company". Finland released Russian students detained on sanctions evasion charges.

Seven people are suspects in this case, including a manager and a freight forwarder of an international transport and freight forwarding company.

Finnish Customs has opened a total of more than 800 investigations into alleged violations of anti-Russian sanctions.

It was recently announced that three Russian students accused of evading sanctions have been released from prison in Finland. They were detained in the city of Khazani on April 30 on charges of illegally exporting dual-use goods committed in 2022.

Last March, Finland issued its first sentence for violating anti-Russian sanctions. A French citizen who heads two Finnish companies received a suspended sentence for supplying dual-use goods to the Russian Federation. In particular, about 3,000 unmanned aerial vehicles and hot air balloons.
