Singer Shaman Called to Deny Registration of Trademark "I Am Russian"

The people's movement "Veterans of Russia" called on the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) to refuse to register the trademark "I am Russian" for the artist Shaman (Yaroslav Dronov). This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a corresponding letter from this organization.

"Veterans of Russia" believe that the registration of trademarks with similar names in Russia is fraught with the commercialization of fundamental concepts of national identity. In addition, the use of the concept "I am Russian" for selfish purposes was considered contrary to the "deep essence of patriotism and the spiritual values of the Russian people."

Previously, singer Shaman wanted to register the brand "I am Russian" to sell vodka, mead, cider, soju, whiskey, rum and gin. The products also include shampoo, bubble bath, soap, air freshener, hair gel, toothpaste, incense, pumice, lipstick, nail glitter and adult toys (including sex dolls).

Later, Dronov confirmed his intention to register this trademark, but motivated this action by the desire to protect his business reputation. According to him, manufacturers often offer him to produce products under this brand, and in order to allow or prohibit this, it is necessary to register the trademark.
