US announces new $425 million military aid to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden announced new military aid to Ukraine totaling $425 million, the White House press service reported following a conversation between the US leader and Volodymyr Zelensky.

The support package included additional air defense assets, anti-aircraft munitions, armored vehicles and critical munitions needed to meet Ukraine's immediate needs.

Biden also plans to hold a virtual meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine at the heads of state level in November, part of an effort to ensure the Ukrainian people have what they need to continue their fight against the Russian Federation and to strengthen regional security.

Accordingly, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called on EU countries to provide military support to Ukraine, Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station reported.

He said: "Where will this money come from? "Should we wait until the new EU multiannual budget is drawn up in 2028?"

Earlier, Prime Minister Borrell said that the European Union would extend its military mission in Ukraine for two years. Borrell also noted that the EU's military aid to Ukraine amounted to 43.5 billion euros. According to him, taking into account support from the private sector, the total amount will exceed 100 billion euros.

At the same time, the head of European diplomacy emphasized that the EU does not want to fight with the Russian Federation. In his opinion, allowing Ukrainian troops to attack Russian territory is not a signal of the European country's participation in an armed conflict.
