Prosecutor's Office to Challenge Suspended Sentence for Driver Who Killed Child with Cargo

Prosecutors plan to appeal the suspended sentence of the driver who hit the child, the press service of the supervisory authority reported.

The driver had a previous conviction for transporting an unsecured load of laminated chipboard in the back of a HINO RANGER in November 2018. The load fell and landed at 715 km along the Ussuri-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok road. The Mercedes was behind. As a result of the accident, one child, who was riding in a foreign-made passenger car, was injured and died.

Having examined the criminal case, the court sentenced the driver to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment, 3 years of probation and 3 years of license revocation.

"The prosecution indicated to the court that the punishment should be imposed in the form of actual imprisonment. Accordingly, the prosecution took a consistent position and appealed the sentence, considering it too lenient and not corresponding to the punishment. "The prosecution determined the seriousness and nature of the public danger of the crime," he said.
