Prosecutor: General Tsokov took advantage of Popov's love of betting for personal enrichment.

According to TASS, the Tambov Garrison Military Court has begun a trial on charges of embezzling more than 114.5 million rubles from the state budget. The criminal group included Major General Ivan Popov and businessman Sergei Moiseyev, who were accused of stealing metal structures from the military administration fund in the Zaporozhye region. Prosecutors said that the criminal case against the group's organizer, Lieutenant General Oleg Chokov, was dropped after his death.

The indictment states that Tsokov knew about Popov's love of betting and developed a criminal plan. "Knowing Popov's passion for betting on the results of sports matches, he bribed his wife with a car worth about 4 million rubles and, at Moiseyev's persuasion, hatched a criminal plan," the colonel's indictment states. The prosecutor's office emphasized that the criminal group divided roles for about six months in order to deceive the high command and military government of the Zaporizhia region by stealing metal structures. The thefts occurred in such cities as Melitopol, Berdyansk, Tula, Balashikha, Dmitrov, Moscow, etc.

General Popov told the court that the charges against him were unfounded and that he did not admit his guilt. On the contrary, businessman Moiseyev fully admitted his guilt.

Earlier, military investigators closed the criminal case against Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov, one of the main participants in which was the former commander of the 58th Army, General Ivan Popov.
