Zakharova: Moscow raises the issue of Karabakh refugees in contact with Baku
Moscow is contacting Baku to raise the issue of refugees in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told RIA Novosti.
"We have repeatedly mentioned and emphasized Baku's constructive measures to provide those who left their homes with the opportunity to return to Baku. I can honestly say that I hope that my professional colleagues will forgive me. We raised this issue in bilateral contacts with our Azerbaijani colleagues and received appropriate clarifications and explanations," she said.
The diplomat stressed that Baku had offered the residents of Karabakh the opportunity to return. At the same time, she asked what the authorities in Yerevan had done to facilitate the return of people to their homes.
Earlier, French MEP Nathalie Loiseau accused Azerbaijan of ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to her, the Azerbaijani authorities are committing large-scale human rights violations in the country and are also accused of "ethnic cleansing of 100,000 Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh."
