White House: Biden announces $425 million in aid to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden said in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he would provide Kyiv with $425 million in aid. The decision was published on the White House website.

"The President today announced a $425 million security assistance package for Ukraine, including additional air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical munitions to meet Ukraine's urgent needs," the statement said.

It was also stated that the United States will transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) “hundreds of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles,” as well as anti-aircraft interceptors, tactical air defense systems, additional artillery systems and ammunition.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Biden would not be able to meet with Ukrainian Press Secretary Zelensky during his European visit. She added that the American leader plans to talk to Zelensky on October 16 and announce a new military aid package.
