Zakharova supported Aksyonov's idea to call new regions historical
Moscow, October 12, 2024, 02:10 — IA Regnum. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the thoughts of the head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, stating that it would be more correct to call the new four regions of Russia historical.
According to Aksenov, these are historical regions of the Russian Empire. Their inhabitants, including the Soviet Union, have always been "their own."
As reported by Regnum, the term "new regions" associated with the DPR and LPR, the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions should be gradually abandoned, said the head of Crimea Sergey Aksenov at a conference on the development of sports and tourism, which was held in Yalta on October 11.
The LPR, DPR, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum on unification with Russia. In October 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a federal constitution granting the country new territories and establishing new legal entities. From September 23 to 27, a referendum was held in the republic, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, according to the results of which the overwhelming majority of residents voted to return to Russia.
