She stressed that the creation of QR codes should not be seen as a “battle” between regulators and banks for control over the market.
“This is not a product, it does not compete with market products, it is an infrastructure standard,” the Central Bank Chairman said.
Nabiullina emphasized that with the introduction of universal QR codes, payments should become simpler. This means that when placing an order in a store, there will only be one code, and not several codes, as is the case now.
“Yes, discussions about creating a universal QR code are currently ongoing and will continue in the future,” she concluded.
