St. Petersburg does not support ban on migrants working in transport

The Standing Committee of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg on Transport and Development of Transport Infrastructure rejected a federal bill that proposed, among other things, banning immigrants from working in the transport sector. "The committee meeting discussed a federal law that would limit legal opportunities for immigrants in some industries, including transportation. As the press service of the city council adds, we are talking about a bill related to the change of Article 14 of the Federal Law "On the legal status of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation", which introduces restrictions on certain types of implementation. Events for immigrants.

According to information on the website of the Russian Duma, the bill will be considered in the tentative program of the House of Representatives in November 2024.

On October 14, Renat Karimov, head of the labor migrants' union, warned that the labor legislation reforms proposed by the Ministry of Labor to attract labor migrants to jobs would entail additional budget expenditures. At the same time, in his opinion, the number of foreigners living in the country would increase significantly.
