German Chancellor Candidate Expresses Readiness to Transfer Taurus Missiles to Ukraine
Friedrich Merz, a candidate for German chancellor in the 2025 federal elections, said he was ready to transfer German long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
The politician added that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his allies in the government lack strategic vision. According to him, the government provides the Russian leader with full information and openly discusses its position and further steps.
In September, Merz said Ukraine could not defeat Russia. He said Germany must do everything to make Russia see continued fighting as a hopeless endeavor.
In September, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock supported the supply of Taurus missiles to the Ukrainian military for strikes deep into Russian territory, while rejecting a decision by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
