Putin submitted to the State Duma a bill to ratify the Russia-DPRK partnership agreement

Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a bill to the House of Representatives on ratification of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and North Korea.

The agreement was signed on June 19, 2024, during President Putin's visit to Pyongyang. It is intended to replace the Framework Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation between Russia and North Korea, signed on February 9, 2000.

The new agreement comes into force on the day of the exchange of instruments of ratification and has an unlimited duration.

The fourth article of the treaty states that if one of the parties is subjected to an armed attack by another state or several states and is put into a state of war, the other parties will provide military and other support.

According to Article 8, Russia and North Korea shall establish a mechanism for joint action to strengthen defense capabilities to prevent war and ensure regional and international peace and security.

Earlier, President Putin congratulated Chairman Kim Jong-un on the 76th anniversary of the founding of North Korea. Kim Jong-un reportedly received an Orlov horse as a gift from President Putin.
