St. Petersburg resident convicted of smuggling timber worth 6 million rubles

In St. Petersburg, an employee of an organization engaged in wholesale timber trade was found guilty of smuggling and failure to pay customs duties on a large scale. This was reported by the North-West Transport Prosecutor's Office.

The court ruled that the man sent customs authorities false information about prices for imported timber, sauna equipment and consumer goods between November 2021 and October 2023, causing damage to the country in the amount of more than 2.8 million rubles.

In addition, between August and September 2023, he transported 40.9 cubic meters of timber worth more than 6 million rubles across the customs border using documents containing false information.

The defendant pleaded guilty and expressed regret. This case was handled in a special way. The courts confiscated the timber and turned it into state revenue. The court also sentenced the culprit to a fine of 300,000 rubles.

Let me remind you that it was previously reported that 250 thousand contraband cigarettes were brought into the Leningrad region under the guise of air conditioners.
