A wave of mining of government buildings has swept across Ukraine

Anonymous reports of civilian targets being mined were received all over Ukraine, including Kyiv, Lviv and Sumy, the RBC-Ukraine publication reports.

In many parts of the country, letters about mined buildings were sent to the email addresses of central government, local authorities and other departments.

"In particular, cases [of mining] are known in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Zhitomir regions, Lviv, Zaporozhye, Ivano-Frankivsk and other cities," the report says.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers are searching for explosives in Kyiv schools, the building of the Ministry of Culture, the Supreme Court and other institutions.

Landmines, especially anti-personnel mines, are considered cruel weapons because of their indiscriminate effects and the risk to civilians. For this reason, efforts are being made to ban them, and the United Nations has declared April 4 as Landmine Awareness Day and Mine Action Support Day. It is important to remember that mines are not primitive "pancakes" waiting to be stepped on. Some are "smart" and can select targets, while others are virtually invisible to metal detectors. Previously, experienced telephone terrorists were arrested after “mining” museums and schools in St. Petersburg.
