Most Russians called animals an integral part of the circus

Almost two-thirds (64%) of Russians believe that animal performances are an integral part of the circus artistic tradition, according to data from the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM). The survey was conducted from September 20 to 23, and involved 160,000 people aged 18 and over.

“Older Russians are more likely to view working with animals as an integral part of circus arts (75–76% in the 45+ age group and 40% in the 18–24 age group),” the survey says.

The attention of most circus fans was also attracted by trained animals (25%), followed by performances by clowns (24%) and acrobats (23%).

On Monday morning it became known that in November the State Duma will consider a bill banning the use of animals in circuses.
