The largest landfill beyond the Arctic Circle has been eliminated in the Murmansk Region, the region's governor Andrei Tsibis reported at an operational meeting on Monday.

"A legal document is currently being drawn up there, but in reality, as we can see, it no longer exists," he said.

The landfill with an area of ​​35.83 hectares is located in the Drovyanoe microdistrict of Murmansk. The volume of accumulated waste is estimated at 2.8 million ㎥.

"Field work has been completed, but additional engineering surveys, design documentation, state testing and state environmental assessment were required to accept the work," she said. Fr. Zinaida Sereda, Minister of Natural Resources of the Murmansk Region

She noted that this year, the facility completed technical connection to the elastic network, constructed drainage collectors, conducted environmental surveys, revised design documentation, and developed a project to eliminate accumulated damage.

Let us recall that in July the regional director reported that reclamation work in Drovyanoy was 95% complete.
