A Primorye resident will face trial for unsuccessfully lighting a stove

As reported by the DEITA.RU agency with reference to the Primorsky Krai prosecutor's office, the Ussuri resident may be sent to a penal colony for not lighting the stove.

The incident occurred in November 2023. It was established that a man born in 1982 decided to light the stove with gasoline while visiting a house on Yubileynaya Street. The use of an unauthorized type of fuel caused a fire that engulfed two of the three apartments in the house. The damage amounted to 2 million rubles, which citizens did not reimburse for almost a year.

He was charged with the destruction of someone else's property through negligence, committed in a generally dangerous manner (Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Punishments under this provision range from a fine to imprisonment for up to one year. The criminal case was transferred to a justice of the peace.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 242 fires occurred in Primorsky Krai due to improper use of household stoves, including the use of faulty equipment. 1,032 fires occurred due to violation of electrical equipment operating rules, and 6,597 fires occurred due to improper handling of fire. As a result of the fire, 89 people died and 78 were injured.
