Fountain season ends in Moscow
The fountain season ended in Moscow on October 12, the capital's municipal services complex reported. Specialists clean the vessels and sculptures, dismantle the lanterns and technical equipment, and then begin to preserve the fountain for the winter. The pumps are switched off sequentially to prevent water hammer. The water in the bowl will drain within a period of 15 minutes to several days. Thus, the water from the dynamic light fountain in Gorky Park drains in about six days.
Fountains with complex engineering communications and decorative elements will receive additional protection before winter. For example, metal shields have been installed at the Pushkin and Repinsky fountains, and the fountain with dynamic lighting in Tsaritsyno is covered with an inflatable dome.
In winter, the fountain is ready for the new season. If necessary, pumping equipment, filters and jet-forming elements are replaced. Specialists also carry out preventive maintenance of all communications and diagnostics of hydraulics.
