Russians speak out about the number of migrants

More than half of Russian companies that hire migrant workers are already experiencing problems with recruiting personnel due to tightening immigration laws.

According to a recent survey conducted by the hh.ru platform, 80% of Russians believe that their region is overpopulated with migrants. Data published by RBC indicate a significant increase in concerns about the migration situation. Over the year, the percentage of those who support this opinion has increased by 21 percentage points.

In particular, workers in the transport and logistics industry (92%), the automotive industry (91%), security (89%) and construction (85%) spoke out strongly against migration. These figures show that these industries face competition from migrant workers, which poses a threat to local jobs. At the same time, 62% of respondents are convinced that migrant labor harms Russian regions.

Interestingly, only 12% of respondents believe that the number of labor migrants in Russia is sufficient, and only 4% believe that this number could be greater. As the researchers found out, this point of view is widespread among professionals in such areas as IT, retail, tourism, public catering and raw materials extraction.

At the same time, 58% of respondents are sure that immigrants are hired for vacant positions where working conditions are not suitable for local residents. In addition, 59% believe that migrant labor is cheaper for employers, which can stimulate hiring.

Amid public tension, on October 11, the State Duma Committee on CIS and Eurasian Integration recommended adopting a bill prohibiting the transfer of rights and obligations to prepare Russian language tests for immigrants to third parties. This legislative proposal was prompted by the need to strengthen control over the migration process and tighten requirements for foreign workers.
