Three-armed robot conductor makes debut in Dresden

Robot conductor MAiRA Pro S lacks charisma and passion, but maintains perfect rhythm. Its debut took place last weekend in Dresden, writes The Guardian.

"The two performances <...> are designed to showcase the latest achievements of mechanical specialists and music written specifically for the use of modern technology," the publication says.

Markus Rindt, artistic director of the Dresden Sinfoniker, noted that the goal was not to "replace people" but to perform complex music that human conductors considered impossible.

Announcing the upcoming performance, RusVerlag.de wrote that the unusual concert took place in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Dresden Symphony Orchestra. The robot used its three arms to reproduce rhythms and also managed to display dynamics.

A year ago, South Korea already used a similar method.
