"Expansion" in Latin America and the New Stirlitz. Why the Heroes of Yulian Semenov's Detectives Are Returning
And TASS held a press conference dedicated to the publication of two books. The first and touching book, "Moment and Eternity. The World of Yulian Semenov through the Eyes of His Daughters" (the younger Olga, a writer, and Daria, an artist), was published in Moskovskaya Pravda.
And anyone who wants to learn more about the life and work of Yulian Semenovich can read the book by Alexei Repin, director of the Yulian Semenov House-Museum in Crimea. This is a complete, historically verified and reliable biography, "Yulian Semenov: from Vitkevich to Stirlitz." Published in Orenburg, the book consists of 752 (!) pages. It is about the ancestors of Stirlitz. There are also numerous documents and previously unpublished photographs.
The speed of Semenov's pen on the page can only be compared to the speed of Dumas. The word "fertility" is inappropriate here. Yulian Semenov was full of ideas and knew how to implement them.
Those who sincerely love the author's work and those who envy his versatility consider him a lucky man. How can one not write a bestseller if a special service gives a loved one access to the archive, and all that remains is to pull out all the tasty morsels and write them down? But, firstly, one still had to be a darling of fate, having written "Major Whirlwind", "TASS has the right to declare", "Petrovka, 38", "Confrontation"... Secondly, no one gave access to the sanctuary. It was not controlled. The sanctuary of the KGB of the USSR is a myth. They provided excerpts and extracts from some multi-volume files. Thirdly, Semenov had enough time to quickly familiarize himself with the material in order to create his characters, clearly acting according to the plot drawn only by him.
Some people wonder how he managed it all. Or, even worse, the idea that one person can't write so much. For an ordinary person, yes. But with great talent, it is possible. Semenov wrote a great novel, not a story, in two weeks. But did that make things worse?
After the publication indifference to the author's work, which was not a kind of oblivion, his works seem to be hitting the shelves again. And not only Russian-speaking readers. His "extended version", recently released in Latin America, tells the story of Sterlitz, recovering from the wounds he received in Berlin and tracking down Nazis who escaped justice. An evening in his memory is held in Paris and even in difficult times his books are published in France. In many countries, excellent translators are working to bring the works of Yulian Semenov to foreign readers.
We are also preparing to shoot a new film. The main character is also Stirlitz. Director of the Writer's Cultural Foundation Yulian Semenov and his daughter Olga Semenova told RG about the creation of the film.
Olga Yulianovna, I have heard about your film project. Perhaps, the continuation of "17 Moments of Spring" has been around for a long time. True or rumor?
Olga Semenova: Now we can firmly say "yes" and "no, these are not rumors." I think I really hope that this film will first appear on the platform, and then on Channel One.

Olga Semenova: I agree. We approached the discussion of this project very seriously. We discussed the details with the future creator. Only after that was he allowed to create a series based on his father's works together with his younger sister Daria. The group that produced the multi-part film "Chief of Intelligence" about Pavel Fitin has already started working. In my opinion, it was a success.
He even received the Yevgeny Primakov Prize from the Foreign Intelligence Service. If I'm not mistaken, even earlier this same group worked on the series "Duels", where the main characters were William Fisher-Rudolf Abel, Hero of the Soviet Union Gevork Vartanyan and his wife Goar, Hero of Russia Alexey Kozlov and Alexey. Olga Semenova: You are right. Therefore, your project is safe and in competent hands. We are in contact with Artem Chashikhin-Toidze. He is a producer, screenwriter, director and actor.
Aren't you afraid that the main plot will be distorted a little? Usually, scriptwriters are not averse to introducing fights and chases into their films. Something that doesn't happen in intelligence.
Olga Semenova: I would like to do this, and I am sure that it will happen without distorting the main storyline. My father told me that all I need to do is open the first page of the book and say "Action!" When you get to the last item, say "Cut!" The writer Alexei Repin, an expert on his father's work, was one of the consultants on the film. Therefore, careful handling is guaranteed.
Olga Semenova: If everything goes according to plan, it will be next summer, probably August. And the battle between the main characters, Sterlitz and Müller, will continue.
Olga Semenova: I know which one. In the minds of viewers, Stirlitz is Vyacheslav Tikhonov. And Gestapo officer Müller is Leonid Bronevoy. There was even talk of some virtual version. But no. That's not an option. But they are looking for him and they will definitely find him...
