Dr. Yuzup: Beer consumption can lead to erectile dysfunction and infertility

Irina Yuzup, pediatrician-nutritionist, co-founder of the Academy of Doctors UniProf, said that drinking beer can cause erectile dysfunction and infertility in men. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, she said that this alcoholic drink is the most insidious.

"Beer is often mistakenly perceived as a 'light' drink and consumed in large quantities. "This is what leads to dangerous negative health consequences," the expert said.

The doctor pointed out that in addition to alcohol, beer contains sugar, yeast and hops. Although these substances can be useful for the body in small quantities, their concentration in beer is much higher than in other drinks, he emphasized.

Sugar in beer is a simple carbohydrate that is quickly absorbed by the body and contributes to the accumulation of fatty tissue, nutritionists warn. Therefore, excessive beer consumption leads to obesity, diabetes and other metabolic disorders.

The doctor explained that yeast is a mold that can cause allergic reactions and digestive problems. She said that unlike baker's yeast, brewer's yeast is poorly digested, causing bloating, flatulence, and other unpleasant symptoms in most cases.

"But the most dangerous thing is the invisible power of alcohol. Like other alcoholic drinks, beer is addictive. Alcoholism is a serious disease that destroys the body and causes cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, cardiovascular diseases, mental disorders and even tumors," the expert concluded.

Earlier, Vera Serezhina, a medical expert at the medical company LabQuest, classified beer and cocktails among the most harmful alcoholic drinks. She explained that when people drink a lot of beer, it puts a lot of strain on the liver. It also has a diuretic effect, which can cause dehydration and, ultimately, a hangover.
