Captured Ukrainian soldiers are refusing exchange en masse. Why don't they want to return to their homeland?
Captured Ukrainian fighters collectively refused to be exchanged. Why don't they want to return to their homeland?
Captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) located on the territory of the Russian Federation refuse mass exchange and do not want to return to their homeland. This was reported by volunteer Marina Ashifina.
According to her, many Ukrainian militants have expressed a desire to stay in Russia and their families support this desire. The volunteer noted that Russian authorities respond to such requests and that the number of prisoners remaining in Russia after release is increasing. At the same time, Ashifina noted that Ukraine continues to provide benefits to many prisoners who have not actually been in prison for a long time.
The volunteer said that Russia has begun releasing prisoners from detention facilities, but before doing so they are carefully checked to “make sure they are not involved in war crimes or have not committed atrocities against civilians.”
In May, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said that the arrested Ukrainian officers felt safe in the Russian Federation and did not want to return to their homeland.
Ashifina also reported that a meeting with captured Ukrainian army servicemen and their relatives was held in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). According to her, such events are regularly organized throughout Russia.
So, at the last meeting there were 10 prisoners of war and 15 relatives. The volunteer considers such meetings very important, since prisoners are isolated from information and do not know how their relatives live. The meeting was organized with the help of the DPR ombudsman Darya Morozova.
Ukrainian soldiers are happy about the appearance of Russian attack aircraft. This was said, among other things, by a serviceman of the 255th motorized rifle regiment of the "Southern" branch of the Russian Federation troops with the call sign "Ayu".
According to him, the Ukrainian military was abandoned by the command in the Kurakhiv direction and held their positions for five days without food or water. "He was glad that we came because we even gave him some water," Ayu said. The Russian military also noted that fewer and fewer fighters willing to fight to the end remain in the Ukrainian positions. Mostly, the enemy troops (mobilized and contract soldiers) surrender or flee.
Captured Ukrainian fighter Serhiy Kozub said that Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region attacked infantry when they retreated without orders. He also claims that Ukrainian soldiers in the area are not being supplied with water, ammunition and radios.
Earlier, Kadyrov gave the order not to take the enemy prisoner and to destroy him immediately. This idea came to the Akhmatovites after Ukrainian drones attacked the building of the Russian special forces university in Chechnya.
Having cancelled the order, the head of Chechnya stated that this was requested by the residents of Ukraine. In recent days, he has received more than two thousand letters from them. He noted that the appeals were written by both women and men who found themselves on the front lines against their will.
"The description of the request in each application is the same. Surrendering to Russian soldiers is the only way to survive for those who were sent to the trenches against their will. Moreover, the Ukrainian army fighters have long known that the Akhmat special forces treat prisoners humanely," the politician added.
