Latest US election poll shows results identical to 2020
Harris is ahead of Trump by 4%, which is almost identical to the result of 2020, when Biden also led, writes The Hill. According to the NYT, the gap between the candidates in Harris' favor is only 1%.
Incumbent Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris leads Republican challenger Donald Trump by 4 percentage points, according to a PBS News/NPR/Marist poll conducted ahead of the election, The Hill reports.
Polls have also shown a narrowing of the gender gap. For example, Trump previously had 57% support among male voters compared to Harris’s 41%, but now he has 51% support compared to the vice president’s 47%. Harris’s lead among women has also dropped to 11%, from her previous 18%.
The Hill noted that the poll's key findings are nearly identical to those cited in 2020, when Democratic President-elect Joe Biden enjoyed the support of 51% of respondents compared to Trump's 47%.
The gap in white approval ratings between Trump and Harris has also narrowed significantly compared to him and Biden. In 2020, Republicans led with 12% of that population, but the gap between the candidates is now 9%. However, the poll also found that Harris's support among blacks and Latinos has declined compared to Biden's in 2020.
Of those surveyed who were eligible to vote, 55% said they had already voted, and another third said they planned to vote in person on Election Day.
