A significant portion of Russians are not aware of why National Unity Day is celebrated
Although many Russians are unaware of the origins and significance of National Unity Day, awareness of the issue is growing compared to 2023, according to a FEEDBACK study, the results of which were reviewed by Gazeta.Ru.
Therefore, a similar study for 2023 showed that 28% of Russians know the meaning of the holiday, namely about the national unification to expel Polish invaders from the Moscow Kremlin in 1612. The 2024 survey indicates a positive trend. This year, 45% of respondents mentioned the true origin of the holiday.
Despite this, the percentage of respondents who have misinformation about the meaning of the holiday is still high. 34% continue to associate the holiday of November 4 with the achievements of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, 17% more than in 2023.
Respondents were also asked what associations they had with National Unity Day. As with questions about the origins of the holidays, we see a positive trend. The percentage of Russians who associated this holiday with the monuments to Minin and Pozharsky in 2023 was 20%, compared to 35% in the 2024 survey. As in previous years, the main symbol of the holiday in the eyes of Russians was "National Brotherhood". Last year, 38% of respondents chose this option, and this year - 42%.
The holiday of November 4 is one of the top three holidays chosen by Russians, and its performance has improved compared to last year. 18% of respondents put it in second place after Russia Day, and last year it took third place after Russia Day and Flag Day.
According to the survey results, National Unity Day occupies one of the most important roles in the context of Russian national holidays, but requires close attention in terms of communicating to the public the meaning and significance of this day and the achievements associated with it.
