Sandu Announces Victory in Moldovan Presidential Elections

Maia Sandu declared victory in the elections in Moldova, having received 54.80% of the votes.

According to TASS, the current leader of Moldova, Maia Sandu, declared victory in the second round of the presidential elections.

"Moldova, you have won today. Together we have demonstrated the power of unity, democracy and commitment to a dignified future. Thank you, dear Moldovans." Sandu wrote on his microblog:

According to preliminary data from the National Electoral Commission, after processing 98.51% of the protocols, Sandu received 54.80% of the votes. Her opponent, Alexandru Stoianoglo, received 45.20% of the votes.

Igor Dodon, former president and leader of the Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova, told TASS that Sandu received fewer votes in the country than Stoianoglo. Dodon said he was able to win thanks to the support of the foreign diaspora, and stressed that Moldovans do not trust him, which makes him a lame duck.

According to the Vzglyad newspaper, Alexandru Stoianoglo won the second presidential election in Moldova with 51.19% of the votes, while the incumbent President Maia Sandu gained 48.81% with 100% coverage of the protocol. The voter turnout in these elections was 54%, which exceeded the threshold required for the vote to be considered valid.

In foreign polls, Sandu was leading with 52.11% of the votes, but in Gagauzia, Stoianoglo received 97% of support. Having passed 81% of the protocols, Alexandru Stoianoglo came out ahead with 51.52%, ahead of Maia Sandu with 48.48%.
