Lawyer Biryukov: Leonid Gozman's wife pleads guilty in smuggling case
Marina Egorova, the wife of politician Leonid Gozman (a recognized foreign agent of the Russian Federation), pleaded guilty in a smuggling case. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to lawyer Mikhail Biryukov.
According to the defense, a case of smuggling was opened against her client on September 27, 2024, and she was detained on October 3. At that time, the woman was given a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
As the lawyer explained, the driver of the Mercedes, who was transporting the couple's belongings, was detained while crossing the Russian-Estonian border in the Pskov region last summer. The items confiscated from him were not "cultural values," but "kitchen and household items." Biryukov said that these were spoons and forks made of nickel silver and silver, which the family inherited from Gozman's mother. He clarified that these were "stamped" household items.
"The export of pre-revolutionary household items and items made of precious metals that have no cultural value abroad is not prohibited by law, but nevertheless requires permission from the Russian Ministry of Culture," the lawyer said.
The lawyer added that the driver of the foreign car does not have such a car.
On October 17, the Moscow City Court reportedly placed Marina Egorova under house arrest. A criminal case was opened against the woman after she was accused of smuggling cultural property as part of an organized group.
In July last year, the Gagarinsky District Court of the capital announced the verdict on Leonid Gozman. He was found guilty under the article on public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of Russian armed forces. As a result, the court sentenced the politician to 8 years and 6 months in prison. In February last year, he was arrested in absentia.
