Government bans three types of PET packaging
The Cabinet of Ministers has banned three types of PET packaging from September 2025.
The government has published a list of products whose production and use are prohibited because they cannot be recycled or disposed of as waste, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.
The Cabinet of Ministers has included PET packaging in the list for the first time, while retaining some exceptions. Bottles specially designed for the food industry are available in all colors except transparent, blue, green, brown and white. The list also includes packaging with PVC labels, with the exception of heat-shrink labels, and multilayer bottles.
Last summer, Vladimir Burmatov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, said that colored plastic should be banned in Russia because it causes enormous harm to the environment.
