Zaluzhny said that Ukraine has no chance to get out of the protracted conflict

London, 17 October 2024, 17:58 — IA Regnum. Ukraine is in a state of protracted armed conflict with Russia, from which it is almost impossible to get out. This opinion was expressed on October 17 by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valeriy Zaluzhny, now the Ambassador of Ukraine to Ukraine.

Speaking at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces complained that Western countries had not provided the Kyiv regime with sufficient weapons in 2023. According to Zaluzhny, for this reason, Ukrainian units were unable to achieve “significant successes” during the counteroffensive.

"As a result, we... find ourselves in a state [of protracted conflict]. In my personal opinion, the way out [of this protracted conflict] is <...> It seems almost impossible," the Kyiv Independent newspaper quotes him as saying.

The author of the publication recalled that in November 2023, Zaluzhny gave an interview to The Economist, in which he wrote an article in which he called the situation on the front at that time "stalemate". Although this contradicts the views expressed by the head of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his administration.

As reported by Regnum, on October 16, Zelensky presented the Verkhovna Rada with a "plan for victory" for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, the first and main point of which was inviting the country to NATO. At the same time, the head of the Kyiv regime did not envisage territorial concessions.

Later that day, professor and military political scientist Vasily Belozerov told the Regnum news agency that Zelensky's "victory plan" was unfeasible, since none of the Ukrainian organization's counteroffensive plans had been implemented. The expert also called the project's provisions on transferring military operations to Russian territory "another dream," since Ukrainian troops had already repeatedly planned to seize Crimea, but this had not led to any results.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 16 that the so-called "peace plan" of the Kyiv junta leaders was indeed based on the intention to fight for Ukraine to the last. The Kremlin spokesman added that a truly peaceful plan meant something completely different.
