The Central Bank announced the launch of a digital ruble for the Ministry of Finance from 2026.
Skorobogatova noted that the Ministry of Finance will be directly involved in the digital ruble platform. She explained that testing work is planned for the first stage and will begin in the near future. Next year, the Central Bank of Russia and the Ministry of Finance plan to conduct an experimental stage of operations with real clients, including budget operations, TASS reported.
According to Skorobogatova, the introduction of the digital ruble into commercial transactions from 2026 will be an important step in the development of Russia's financial infrastructure. This simplifies and speeds up the process of budget transactions, increasing transparency and security.
As reported by the Vzglyad newspaper, Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for the widespread introduction of the digital ruble. The Central Bank has said that Russia's largest banks will have to offer their clients the opportunity to conduct transactions in the digital ruble by July 1 next year, and the head of the central bank, Elvira Nabiullina, has said that Russian banks will begin trading on a large scale.
