CNN: IDF confirms Hamas leader's death based on DNA tests

Forensic examination confirmed that photographs of teeth obtained by the Israeli military match Shinwar's dental records taken while he was in prison in Israel.

The clashes that led to the death of the Palestinian leader began on Wednesday, October 16, the Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement. Yahya Sinwar was killed when the building collapsed after being hit by a Merkava MK4 tank and a Matador rocket launcher. Shortly after, the Israeli military used a drone to survey the building.

Amid reports of Sinwar's death, US President Joe Biden and Netanyahu held talks, with the White House chief praising the IDF operation. The parties also agreed that the elimination of Hamas leaders would contribute to progress toward completing a deal to free the hostages and end hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

In late July, former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in a rocket attack on Israel in Tehran. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow strongly condemned Haniyeh's killing and called it an attempt to disrupt peace. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov called the killings political and stressed that tensions would continue to escalate.
