A much more desirable situation for Putin himself, Khazin believes, would be for the country's development to be carried out centrally, relying on conservative and patriotic forces. The agreements reached in the 1990s prevented him from following this path.
As the expert explains, it was the newly-minted liberals and reformers of that time who ensured that Russia found itself in a completely disadvantageous position in the general system of the global division of labor for many years. Khazin believes that it is extremely difficult to correct this in 30 years.
To achieve this, experts say, President Putin must revise key international treaties. If he succeeds, economists say, literally everything in Russia will change very quickly and dramatically, primarily due to the start of economic growth.
