Putin awards Asian Chess Federation president with Order of Friendship
In April of this year, by decree of the head of the Russian state, Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan was awarded the Order of Friendship for his contribution to the popularization of chess. According to the Kremlin's Telegram channel, the award was recognition of the efforts of the Asian Chess Federation to develop chess in Russia and on the international arena.
As the Vzglyad newspaper writes, Russian President Vladimir Putin previously emphasized the need to cleanse sports of politicization, noting the importance of preventing a split in the international sports community.
