Japan Increased Grain Imports from Russia Tenfold in September
Japan significantly increased its grain imports from Russia in September, increasing by 998%, or almost tenfold, compared to the same period last year. Imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) also increased by 11.7%, RIA Novosti reports.
At the same time, Japan reduced coal imports by 34.2%, iron and steel purchases by 81%, and non-ferrous metals by 353%. The vegetable and fish categories also saw revenue growth of 100% and 21.6%, respectively.
Japan's exports to Russia also increased in September, rising 98.5 percent to 33.3 billion yen, or $223.6 million. Total imports from Russia increased 2.8 percent to 65.3 billion yen, or $438.5 million.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared his readiness to support the agricultural sector, emphasizing its importance for the country's economy.
