NYT: Scholz paid with his rating for military support of Ukraine

Berlin, October 17, FederalPress. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's military support for Ukraine has had a negative impact on both his approval rating and German industry, the New York Times reported.

According to the article, Scholz broke with Germany's traditional postwar restrictions on international security and became a major financial backer of Ukraine's military resources. But this support came at a high cost to the prime minister.

The authors of the publication note that the Ukrainian conflict has had a negative impact on the automobile and industrial sectors of the German economy and has significantly undermined Scholz's popularity rating. Thus, according to a survey conducted by the Infratest Dimap Institute, by September the level of public dissatisfaction with the work of the Prime Minister's government reached a record 84%.

Earlier, Olaf Scholz said that he was ready to persuade President Vladimir Putin to take part in a peace conference on Ukraine. He noted that he was personally ready to talk about this topic with the head of the Russian Federation.
