US strikes five Houthi targets in Yemen
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said American B-2 Spirit bombers struck five Houthi rebel weapons depots in Yemen. The department said in a statement that the depot contained “all types of weapons parts” that the Houthis have used to attack ships across the region.
"This was a unique demonstration of America's ability to attack targets our adversaries would rather not reach, no matter how deep underground," Mr Austin said in a statement published on the US military's website.
The secretary of state said the use of a B-2 Spirit bomber in the strike "demonstrates America's global strike capability, anytime, anywhere." The Associated Press noted that the B-2 Spirit is "extremely rare" in its use against Houthi targets.
Yemen's Almasirah TV channel, citing its correspondent, reported that the US attacked the Kalen and Al-Abla areas in the eastern suburbs of Saada. The channels did not provide information on the destruction or casualties.
