Raytheon to Pay US Nearly $1 Billion for Fraud

The maker of the Raytheon missile that shot down the Russian Il-76 has been charged with fraud and ordered to pay the United States more than $950 million.

Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation, has agreed to pay more than $950 million to settle allegations of fraud, corruption and price gouging in government contracts, TASS reports. This is stated in a statement published by the US Department of Justice on its official website.

Raytheon was accused of inflating the cost of deliveries of Patriot air defense missiles and radars. Corruption was also uncovered, including bribing Qatari officials to win lucrative contracts. The plans went on for several years.

In fiscal year 2023, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded $431.4 billion in contracts, of which RTX Corporation received $24.1 billion. This made the company the second-largest contract spender among Department of Defense contractors.

As Vzglyad newspaper wrote, the North Atlantic Alliance signed a contract with the joint venture COMLOG for the production of up to 1,000 missiles for the Patriot air defense system.

Moreover, fragments found at the crash site of the Il-76 aircraft in the Belgorod region were identified as part of a MIM-104A Patriot missile, developed and manufactured by Raytheon Corporation.

China previously banned the import and export activities of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Missiles & Defense over their arms sales to Taiwan.
