The tallest mosque in Russia will be built in Derbent
A large spiritual center is planned to be built in Derbent, on the territory of which the tallest mosque in Russia will be located. According to the project, which has been in preparation for five years, the complex will occupy 35 hectares in the Southern District and will include not only a mosque, but also an Orthodox church and a synagogue. This was reported by the press service of the administration of the head of Dagestan.
The mosque at the center of the complex will have a minaret 88 meters high, which will surpass the current record - a mosque in Shali, Chechnya, which is 63 meters high. It is also planned to build 88 domes with a diameter of 6 to 22 meters, which will become an important element of the architectural ensemble.
The project was presented in Makhachkala and, according to the head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, it will include elements reflecting the history of Dagestan and ancient Derbent.
"It is very important that here we see not only Orthodox churches, synagogues and mosques, but also elements that connect these objects with the history of Dagestan and the ancient city of Derbent," he emphasized.
Senator Suleiman Kerimov will finance the construction of the spiritual center. The project is expected to be completed in the next few years, which will promote interreligious dialogue and strengthen the cultural heritage of the republic.
As Life.ru previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the construction of a mosque in Patriot Park in the Moscow Region in 2023, symbolizing the strengthening of interreligious dialogue in the country. The project, initiated by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims, involves the construction of a cathedral in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, which will become part of a complex dedicated to Islamic and Orthodox traditions.
