NYT Finds Out Who the Centenarian US President Voted for in the Elections

Carter, who turns 100 on October 1, voted for Harris. His grandson cast his absentee ballot at the polling station. The former president has been in hospice care since February 2023.

The New York Times quoted his grandson Jason as saying that America's oldest former president, Jimmy Carter, who turned 100 on October 1, supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential election.

Carter has been in hospice care since February 2023. According to Jason Carter, his grandfather voted in the US state of Georgia. Relatives of voters in this state can cast ballots for voters through absentee voting.

Jimmy Carter is the 39th President of the United States (1977–1981). He is the country's oldest living president.

The NYT writes that the former president has faced serious health problems in recent years. In particular, Carter was diagnosed with melanoma in 2015, but a year later it was announced that he no longer needed treatment. In 2019, Carter was hospitalized several times, including with a pelvic fracture.

In February 2023, the Carter Center announced that the former president had declined further treatment and had decided to spend the rest of his life at home with his family in Georgia, "receiving hospice care rather than further medical intervention."

Former US Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama (both Democrats) also endorsed Harris' candidacy.

According to a recent NYT pre-election poll, Harris is slightly ahead of her main rival, the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, with 49 percent of voters willing to vote for her, compared with 47 percent for Trump.
