8 billion rubles spent on improving Kazan for the BRICS summit

The first special train for BRICS guests departed from Kazansky Station to the summit venue. Five luxury trains were specially delivered to the city.

Alexander Cheremnov, Deputy Director of the Gorky Railway for Territorial Management: "According to Roscongress, we need to transport slightly more than 7,000 people per day. In connection with this, trains have been moved from other roads."

The passenger aprons (aircraft parking areas) at Kazan airport have been renovated, new buses and special equipment have been purchased. The delegation will immediately leave the airport for the Kazan Expo site. There, employees are setting up round tables, preparing limited and expanded format meeting rooms, and preparing areas for the media.

"Kazan Expo" has an international workspace with computers and Internet access. Journalists from 59 countries were accredited to the summit. All visitors to the summit must obtain a badge from the certification center. Without this document, it is impossible to enter the BRICS sites. This is a security requirement.

Yulia Kholodnova, representative of the Roscogress Foundation: "38 delegations were invited, more than 30 confirmed their participation. We are using the entire room. Cultural institutions are ready to receive guests to demonstrate the diversity of our city."

We are setting up the screen and sound in the large reception hall. In addition, several halls for heads of state are being prepared.

For the convenience of participants, volunteers will be working throughout the summit and accompanying guests at various sites. Since we expect many Muslim guests, separate prayer rooms for women and men have been set up near the conference hall.

Two additional places are available for delegation meetings. The hall and the town hall on the territory of the Kremlin. The latter was completely renovated. The city was actively preparing for the summit. 8 billion rubles were spent on improvements. Engineering networks and roads were repaired, new parks and squares were created.

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metsin: “I can’t say that I’m nervous, but it’s one thing to host the Universiade, and another to host an event that will change the world.”

Security measures have been stepped up during the BRICS event in Kazan. Public transport routes are being changed, and some roads in the city centre are being closed. Electric scooters have also been removed from the city. The summit will last three days, starting on 22 October.
