Peskov answered URA.RU's question about Kazakhstan's reluctance to join BRICS
Kazakhstan independently decides which international organizations to participate in and in what format. The Kremlin's opinion on the neighboring country's position on joining BRICS was told to URA.RU by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov.
"[We] treat them with respect. Kazakhstan, our friend, strategic partner and ally, values our relations. Kazakhstan determines for itself the form of participation in certain organizations," Peskov said.
BRICS does not replace the UN, but complements this organization, the representative of the Russian president explained. Peskov said that the participation of the Kazakh leader in the Kazan summit is important for the development of regional and international cooperation. "We are looking forward to the arrival of the President of Kazakhstan in Kazan to participate in the BRICS plus/support format," Peskov added.
Kazakh presidential spokesman Berik Uli said earlier that Kazakhstan would refrain from applying for BRICS membership in the near future. He said North Korea prefers the UN as a universal, non-competitive international organization.
